Megalith

Megaliths were to be one of the main changes to the gameplay of Homeworld 2 as defined by the Dustwars documents, however they never made it into the final game due to the tight schedules imposed on Relic by Sierra, as well as a number of issues with their implementation. More recently, some modders seem to have got the basic concept to work in the Homeworld 2 engine, although the pathing errors they caused still seem to be apparent.
Essentially megaliths were to add a form of terrain to the game, being exceptionally large structures which filled maps. Homeworld 2's resourcing system as well as units were to be adapted to this new style of gameplay, with the player able to build turrets on the structures and "unlock" benefits granted by certain parts of the structures. It was even speculated that there could be "ground" based units and buildings in addition to the usual space based craft, adding an entirely new dimension to the game.
Many fans still hope that Megaliths will see the light of day in Homeworld 3, though it is doubtful that Homeworld 3 will ever exist.
