The UBB

The first incarnation of the Relic Forums ran on software from Infopop, called Ultimate Bulletin Board (or UBB). Initially, Sorak was the only forum staffer, functioning as both administrator and moderator. Later, as the community grew, Athexx was brought onboard as a second administrator, along with several moderators — dmille, FoX, Soulblighter, and UberJumper.

The Exodus

In March 2001, the Relic Boards (then hosted on Relic.com) closed down, Relic having decided that it was no longer worth their while to host them. A deal brokered between Relic and Relicnews left Relicnews hosting the official Relic Forums.

Teething problems

The new Relic Forums, located at forums.relicnews.com, initially ran on the WWWThreads software. However, various problems with the inflexibility of the software and the availability of the superior vBulletin package led to it being abandoned, with the loss of the forum database. However, the introduction of vBulletin did not solve the problems, with the complete loss of the database some months into the new software's tenure. By this time the forum's residents had become accustomed to tragedy, and a thoroughgoing backup regime — led by people like TheReflection — was in place, archiving threads deemed worthy of salvation from the recurring apocalypses.

The second Exodus

In 2005 Relicnews, and with it the Relic Forums, left Telefragged for the greener pastures of Delphy's server farm, which was already hosting his Sims 2 modding site, Mod the Sims 2.
