Freelance is a close-knit group of friends who met playing Homeworld. They are widely regarded as one of the most skilled groups to have played the game. For a time, Freelance maintained The Guidestone's strategy section, as well as posting heavily in the Relic Forums Homeworld strategy discussions. Several Freelance members were at one time (or still are) moderators on the Relic Forums.

In 2002 Freelance launched an immense flash/html website that was ranked very highly on the then-popular Homeworld Top 100 Websties listing and seen as the most informative and nicest of any armada/clan site. The strategy section of the FL website included tutorials and setups for many maps written by the Lancers themselves as well as hundreds of the best game recordings Homeworld has ever seen.

Many Freelance members now play EVE Online under the command of Molle in a corporation called Evolution. Evolution is now considered by the majority of the Eve community as the most powerful single group playing the game.

History

Freelance was founded 12 May 2000 by frstkor13 and Icecrane. Freelance soon became known for its Homeworld skills, at one point having the #1 player on both (HW & HW:C) ladders, as well as 8 of the top 20.

The only known allies to Freelance were the Space Lords Syndicate. Former SLS members now residing (or stolen from SLS) within FL are Wildcard, Phaeton, Quar, Bloodlord, Griffin and Division.

The only known enemy armada to FL is the secretive TAOSP (The Armada of Shin's Pants) which was revealed in a 2002 Homeworld Universe interview by ceejayoz of frstkor13. This hostile group now operates in the Eve Universe as well and is a ninja striking force utilized by Evolution, which seems odd.

Freelance had a popular IRC channel, #freelance that has since disappeared as their members moved on to games such as EVE Online. Although they still maintain their keyed private channel on the stratics irc network.

  • You guys got that far into meticulously micromanaging every detail of the game, believing that the only way to have fun in HW was to win every game. FL apparently refused to believe there was any other way to play the game... to the point of creating an offensive animated .gif banner for use in the HW Top 100 and a couple other places suggesting that players interested in map-making, screenshots, MOD'ing the game, background making, or fan fiction were all a bunch of pansy assed ninny losers.
