Athexx is a former Homeworld player, Guidestone staffer, and administrator of the Relic Forums. He joined the Homeworld community in March of 1999.

Homeworld

Athexx was involved in both Homeworld beta tests, where he initially gained notice by uploading a recording of an entire Homeworld Multiplayer game, the first substantial example of HW gameplay available for the public eye. Athexx was also involved in the effort of community members during the beta to convince the Relic employees that the game was imbalanced despite the limited selection of units available in the first beta. He did this by first defeating rupract and Quinn in a 2on2 partnered with Mad Hatter and then by using the same imbalances to defeat Rasolf, supposedly one of the better Relic players. This contributed towards Relic's decision to open a second beta test to specifically address balance issues, and to his induction into the "celebrity armada", Xenogenesis.

During the second Homeworld beta, Athexx left Xenogenesis to form a new Armada called The 7th Rank along with Mad Hatter and US-EVe, to be based on skill rather than fame. This was proved through the Beta 2 tournament, in which Athexx took first place and Mad Hatter second.

After Homeworld was released, Athexx continued to play Homeworld consistently and competitively for several months until he took a month long vacation to Sri Lanka. When he returned, his activity in the Homeworld community substantially decreased, apart from spurts of activity in Homeworld balance discussions and playing Homeworld: Cataclysm when it came out.

Community Activities

Athexx joined the staff of the Guidestone in the summer of 1999 during the second beta in an attempt to deliver consistent content to the "underdog" site of the Homeworld community. His notable contributions included a regular series of detailed strategy and tactics articles for Homeworld, and his Homeworld Demo Challenges.

In the fall of 1999, Sorak made Athexx the second Relic Forums administrator after a large attack of spam on the boards. Due to Athexx's harsh moderating style he was often criticized for overmoderation. This was heightened when the forum software was upgraded to allow the addition of moderators, when many of Athexx's choices for moderators were seen as being because of favoritism. At one point, Athexx shut down General Discussions entirely.

Personal Life

Athexx's real name is Avin Fernando, and he is married with one daughter. He is a Christian, and when he posts on the forums these days, it is most often on threads related to Christianity. Athexx works as a software developer in Pittsburgh, PA.
